RockmusicRaider Review - Et Moriemur - Ex Nihilo in Nihilum - Album CoverSometimes records sit in the review pipe for no good reason for a very long time. And get passed over time and time again, just to be rediscovered more by accident than by design. This so happened with the Dying Ones from the Czech Republic. In 2014 Et Moriemur unleashed a pretty underrated Doom Metal album called Ex Nihilo In Nihilum via Solitude Productions. Just to get a re-issue very late in 2016 by Minotauro Records. So, why feature this album on the blog now, so very long after the fact?

First because they are good at what they do. There is no mistaking the doomish flavor in everything present on that disc.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Karma Rassa – Talks to Innerself (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Karma Rassa - Talks to Innerself - Album CoverIt sometimes seems as if we preferred the heavy, blackened thumping of any extreme #metal flavor throughout the RockmusicRaider office landscape. But not so! At times something more laid back is in order. And for that we have gotten the folks navigating in the Progressive and Avantgarde field.

Now, you usually find the well known bands like Leprous, Steven Wilson or the gang around Arjen Lucassen on your radar. But these guys are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. The community is huge. Whilst this is so, you will find loads of them progressive folks out there just djenting away until there is no tomorrow.Got hooked? RockmusicRaider’s Intermittent Best of… – Tome II

Caladan Brood - RockmusicRaider Music ReviewsIt for sure feels like a gazillion of months since I first wrote the Tome I Best of… earlier in 2015. But we are only a few months out and already a new one is due.

Eventful was the time: From flamers attacking us with comments displaying a level of stupidity I never thought possible, to full-blown hacker attacks on the site, one total breakdown of the site with subsequent reloading and salvaging the server contents. This last one was quite heavy, barely avoiding loosing months of writing.

Wondrous things were happening too: For example Anneke van Giersbergen almost jumping onto the hood of my car when crossing the road right in front of me with her family in a little town by the Lake of Geneva and poor old RockmusicRaider struck speechless, sitting dumbstruck in the car.Got hooked? Amorphis – Elegy (1996) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Amorphis - Elegy - 1996 - Album CoverWe write the Year of the Lord 1996. Amorphis just about came to some real fame with their heavy and very Death Metal oriented 2nd studio album Tales from the Thousand Lakes. Everyone was now eagerly awaiting something similar from their next concoction. Right?? Now here comes their 3rd studio brainchild Elegy. And what have we found? A hellufa change: Amorphis is happily throwing in Folk and synthie pop elements, stuff laced with very heavy Melodic Death Metal – growls and all, mixed with good old Heavy Metal, atmospheric passages and ’70s style parts on keyboards and guitars. You got it all. I can thus fully understand why Elegy got very mixed reviews back in time and ever since; some reviewers hating it and others loving it. Got hooked? Raid this some more...
