Let’s wallow some more into the Progressive Metal swamp that got quite some attention lately at RMR.

But to safely get there we need to perform some magick: First, take two large spoons of progressive. Then mix with a large dose of groove, and lavishly add a goodly shot or two of Moonspell. Heat the cauldron, bring to boil, and stir well. 

Then sprinkle with powerful riffs, and you got yourself the self-titled debut EP brought to you by Red Cain. And it is sturdy stuff waiting for ye that risks blasting yer socks off.

Newsflash: Witchwood released a Handful of Stars!

What? A transverse flute embedded in a Stoner Rock piece? Now, this really stopped me cold in my tracks. So, would this be Ian Anderson and his gang active in progressive retro-rock? Not likely.

But perhaps they should, given that they were one of the pioneers of anything prog back then. But it is indeed not them playing, but the Italian band Witchwood. And they just unleashed their newest and second release A Handful of Stars. 

The band sports a somewhat blatant mix of Jethro Tull meets Uriah Heep that nevertheless points straight to the ’70s. A time, when not only rock was born, but the directions were set for … [...] Click to raid more!

It must be the cold, cold wind from the East screaming about the lonely steppes and mountains. Because from their foggy abodes in Central European countries raise a lot of good Black and Death Metal bands. And specifically, pretty much everything blackened grows very well there, as some of the reviews on RockmusicRaider can attest.

The Ukrainian band Balfor just released their newest music video Serpents of The Black Sun, unleashing a taste of their 3rd full-length album Black Serpent Rising, which released in January 2017.

Nary a year after having released their latest full-length album To Below and Beyond, the Italian Doom Rock and Metal band Black Oath are back. This time with an EP – a short blurb called Litanies in the Dark.

Short as it may be, it is an interesting piece of rock with a mighty metal injection. Their crystal clear style moves around tempi and moods, sometimes a bit faster and at times slow as they should.
