Sirenia - The Seventh Life Path - Album Cover

You know, I like Gothic Metal and Symphonic Metal. I really do. It is usually more melodious and varied than the more straightforward types of metal that exist out there. And after a weekend of down ‘n’ dirty metal crunch, some Symphonic band-aid to soothe my bleeding ears is a welcome change.

But here I am listening to the Spanish/Norwegian Gothic Metal band of two+ Sirenia‘s latest studio album The Seventh Life Path. And already I am confused.

No doubt: The talent at work is impressive. Morten Veland founded the gig back in 2001 as the multi-instrumentalist-in-chief. And Ailyn [...] Click to raid more!

Right? Nope.

It is actually present-day Train and their opening song Cadillac, Cadillac, even imitating the Caribbean lilt that the former and long dissolved band mastered so well. Speak about a truckload of transformation compared to their former offerings. And that already at the start of the album.

This is how the band’s new 7th studio album Bulletproof Picasso opens up. And it is not really with a volley of deadly artillery fire that will boost you out to space.

RockmusicRaider - Amaranthe - The Nexus - Album Cover

Wow! We found ourselves some nexus here. Pop metal on steroids with a taste of Britney Spears. And this one featuring a female front and two more male singers.

It is kind of a vocalist overkill of sorts. And all that voodoo is delivered without the feathers that you would have gotten from Lauri and his gang! One could describe it as total Pop and Disco Metal, fully out of control, but with a few solos made by Olof Mörck. Those got my attention though – not bad at all.

In addition, some of the growls would make Arch [...] Click to raid more!
