Just one day before Lacuna Coil‘s newest album Sleepless Empire released mid February 2025, the band dropped a bomblet of a new video. At first, the RMR crew was somewhat unimpressed. The clip was based on I Wish You Were Dead, the most commercially accessible track on the whole album after all. Yet, this is also the most gothically tainted song on this album.

And sure enough, you’ll find a clip telling an almost stereotypical goth story of the beloved wanting to dispose of her mate in a colorful variety of creative ways. But all sorts of trouble … [...] Click to raid more!

Nobody over here needs to be reminded who Lacuna Coil is. The band has been a staple of this zine for all its existence. At first, the RMR crew covered the somewhat conflicted mid-tens offerings such as Dark Adrenaline or – again – Broken Crown Halo.

Things started to improve by 2016 when the disturbing yet pretty excellent Delirium appeared out of nowhere. That one clearly marked a change in energy levels, posture, and attitude of a band finally capitalizing on their many talents. Ah, the Cimbrian community in the Italian Veneto seems to be very active in metal. The RMR crew covered Kanseil’s piece Doin Erde earlier in 2015. Folk Metal with a quirk and a solid historical background.

Now, the Italian Folk Metal band VallorcH released their sophomore full-length album Until Our Tale Is Told back towards the end of that same year. And similar to the aforementioned medievally-tainted dudes, this act takes a pretty folksy, yet truly metallic approach to local themes. Mainly based on the cultural remnants of the highlands North of Venice.

The RMR crew just survived the latest attack from the masters of the weird. A record so out of the box that the Review Desk struggled with its overwrought alternative and strangely proggy airs. But such free-wheeling records (almost) always get the better of us.
