It appears that the RMR deck crew took a liking to a score of them one-man-show and/or solo projects over time. But this does not really come as a surprise.

These projects often deliver music differently, somewhat off the beaten track. You need those outfits that are hungry and want to succeed on a different plane than all the other mainstream folks.

And sometimes these projects and their records just grip you and won’t let go – at first at least. And you don’t even know why that should be. It’s truly visceral in a sense.

I got a headache. A big one. So, time to break out that Aspirin, will ya. Or I’ll probably die from metal poisoning, or – worse – turn into a metal zombie.

And this after only one full listen of Veleno, the newest heap of mighty Death Metal from the flamboyant Italians of Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Damn, the RMR deck crew is late again. So very late. Late to the game of catching the best albums of any one year. And sometimes, this is a pity.

Because some of those records might (just might) have made it onto the Top 10 of the year in question. I could now drone you to despair by making you listen to all these reasons why this happened or not. But, bugger it. Ain’t important no more.

Sometimes things just fit. At the time of the release of Berserker, Amon Amarth‘s 2019 epic, I was just reading the newest novel of Bernard Cornwell’s Viking series.

A perfect backdrop to a great story, whilst Johan Hegg growls about the English growing confused when faced with the berserkers of the Norse invaders. Back in time, way back in time.
