Hell’s Bells!

Now I am really feeling stoned. I just successfully navigated through a series of listens of the US stoner/doom band Void King and their debut and self-released album There is NothingVery nihilistic, ain’t it?

You will find an intense soundscape with a gazillion of downturned, excellent riffs assaulting you from every corner.

The record surprises with a grungy, doomy, metal-infused Stoner Rock from back in time. All of this is fittingly supplemented by Jason Kindred‘s gritty vocals. At times their tune sounds like some unclean, drunken version of the biggies in the Doom world, like [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Draconian - Sovran - Album Cover

Scandinavia seems to be an endless source of all things metal. This time we get it from Sweden, where I thought only the happy blonde bombshells dwell – but not so. The 6th studio album Sovran from Draconian is – at its base – real Doom Metal.

A powerful brand of Doom wanting to ice the bones in your body, and pound you crying into the dust with a deluge of sadness and tribulations. Interesting, how underrated this band is compared to the better-known players in the genre. Especially in comparison with the Peaceville Three – myth or not. Draconian are really up there with the best.[...] Click to raid more!

The 5th studio album Draconian Times of British metallers Paradise Lost takes off to somewhere. Only we are not sure where this is all going. The tune they present often sounds like Heavy Metal, as in Metallica of the Load era during the mid-’90s, albeit at a slower pace of sorts. And this makes me wonder where the real Doom Metal element escaped to.

Further, for a doom album proper, the style thrown at us is almost too lively. So here we have a record that moves down this Gothic Metal road that became more and more important in the late ’90s and early ’00s. Draconian Times is – in this sense – a strange animal [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider’s Intermittent Best of… – Tome II

It for sure feels like a gazillion months since I first wrote the Tome I Best of earlier in 2015. But we are only a few months down the road and already a new one is due.

Eventful was the time: From flamers attacking us with comments displaying a level of stupidity I never thought possible, to full-blown hacker attacks on the site, one total breakdown of the site with subsequent reloading and salvaging the server contents. This last one was quite heavy, barely avoiding losing months of writing.

Wondrous things were happening, too!

For example, Anneke van Giersbergen almost jumped onto the hood of [...] Click to raid more!
