RockmusicRaider Review - Arrayan Path - Chronicles of Light - Album CoverArrayan Path have this uncanny knack to connect to you immediately and get you to continue listening to their tune. I am not exactly sure what causes this, but Chronicles of Light is certainly pretty powerful stuff, sprinkled with a lot of passion and authenticity. It is this extra kick that gets the reviewers attention for a record, even if the pipeline is desperately overflowing. Now, they just did exactly that to me with their 5th and newest album Chronicles of Light.

And it is this strange potion of Southern Mediterranean island-flavored #metal that did the trick. And the fact that the heavy influence of the excellent IV: Stigmata, their 2013 album, still persistently lingers at the back of my mind.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

2015 Top 10 Records

RockmusicRaider Review - Amalie Bruun - GuitarThe first full year for RockmusicRaider went by and a great many records were reviewed. A wild ride it was and still is, with challenges galore, some overcome and some still lurking nearby. This list covers records that got released in 2015. And who would have thought that the black section of #metal would be getting such attention during this year. Certainly not me. I am looking forward to a even more eventful 2016 and the pipeline does look pretty much filled already – but this is only the beginning.

So, let’s step right in:

RockmusicRaider’s Intermittent Best of… – Tome II

Caladan Brood - RockmusicRaider Music ReviewsIt for sure feels like a gazillion of months since I first wrote the Tome I Best of… earlier in 2015. But we are only a few months out and already a new one is due.

Eventful was the time: From flamers attacking us with comments displaying a level of stupidity I never thought possible, to full-blown hacker attacks on the site, one total breakdown of the site with subsequent reloading and salvaging the server contents. This last one was quite heavy, barely avoiding loosing months of writing.

Wondrous things were happening too: For example Anneke van Giersbergen almost jumping onto the hood of my car when crossing the road right in front of me with her family in a little town by the Lake of Geneva and poor old RockmusicRaider struck speechless, sitting dumbstruck in the car.Got hooked? Kamelot – Haven (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Kamelot - Haven - Album CoverKamelot! The name sends you echoes of mystical events way back in time. To King Arthus’ court of the round table of valiant knights. An epic era much shrouded in fabulously famous legends of all kinds. And here we are expecting something stellar around these lines – metal at its best.

And I am getting something that somehow sounds like it, but it just does not quite feel right. Epica made the same mistake lately with their 2014 disc The Quantum Enigma – the overdone turkey one, with too much gravy. Too much over-compressed bombast, too many instruments to play with. Overproduced to hell – you name it. Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Blynd – Liber Sum (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Blynd - Liber Sum - Album CoverPicture this: The genteel nation of Cyprus. Loads of Souvlaki, Tzatziki, Mediterranean Salad and some local wine on the side. Lazy drives around the countryside with visits to beaches and places unknown. Boat rides and snorkeling tours. Nice, gentle music, warm winds caressing your skin. Drinks at the bar with sunburned friends, hot chicks and all. Well, there you go, Liber Sum (I am free in Latin), you will think.

Sound good? Vacation needed? Liber Sum?

And now this: Harsh, pitiless metal sounds assaulting my ears out of my headphones, no clean singing allowed. Genteel little nation in the midst of the ocean? Nope. Come again! Got hooked? Raid this some more...
