2015 Top 10 Records

RockmusicRaider Review - Amalie Bruun - GuitarThe first full year for RockmusicRaider went by and a great many records were reviewed. A wild ride it was and still is, with challenges galore, some overcome and some still lurking nearby. This list covers records that got released in 2015. And who would have thought that the black section of #metal would be getting such attention during this year. Certainly not me. I am looking forward to a even more eventful 2016 and the pipeline does look pretty much filled already – but this is only the beginning.

So, let’s step right in:

RockmusicRaider Review - Finsterforst - Mach dich Frei - Album Cover#10 – Finsterforst – Mach Dich Frei

Talk about crunch, this is very powerful stuff. The boys from the Black Forest (the modern denomination of Finsterforst) in Germany just hit you over the head with some sort of Forest Death Metal of the folksy kind. Mach Dich Frei is probably the best record they released so far and the title song is just captivating. I really enjoyed the record as a whole – crystal clear, brutal and just good. The lyrics are all in German, but they enjoy communicating in English. Go figure. Whatever the language you speak, however, this record should be worth at least a listen. As I said above, powerful stuff. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

RockmusicRaider’s Intermittent Best of… Tome I – The first few Months!

cool-guitarWell, hells bells! This was quite a run from no website a few months ago to a blog that starts to pay off to some very, very limited fame. Still going strong, writing reviews left, right and center – investing what little time my already busy schedule leaves me.

The first review that started me off was ‘Hydra‘ from Within Temptation – frankly not the best these guys ever produced – a friggin’ attempt to get into mainstream. A pity if you think that they produced stellar stuff before, real pearls like ‘Enter‘ or ‘The Silent Force’, which still send shivers down my spine for some of them tracks in there. Real emotion!

Black Sabbath then came along with their latest masterpiece ‘13‘. A bunch of grumpy old men strumming away, still going strong – no meek singing, but rocking away with Doom and Heavy Metal at its best. A pity that their long-time drummer kind of lost himself looking for a contract. Good grief! This last record really reminded me of their very first album, kindred in style – by the name of Black Sabbath. And I love them for it – ways to go Ozzy, Geezer and Tony! They still play the thing that stands before me.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
