RockmusicRaider’s Intermittent Best of… Tome I – The first few Months!

cool-guitarWell, hells bells! This was quite a run from no website a few months ago to a blog that starts to pay off to some very, very limited fame. Still going strong, writing reviews left, right and center – investing what little time my already busy schedule leaves me.

The first review that started me off was ‘Hydra‘ from Within Temptation – frankly not the best these guys ever produced – a friggin’ attempt to get into mainstream. A pity if you think that they produced stellar stuff before, real pearls like ‘Enter‘ or ‘The Silent Force’, which still send shivers down my spine for some of them tracks in there.Got hooked? RockmusicRaider Review - Arven - Black is the Colour - Album CoverHahaaa! Rock’n’Roll!! Hand and fingers in the air! The newest album Black is the Colour of the German band Arven takes off furiously fast. Nothing of the subdued style left anymore that somehow plagued their debut album Music of Light.

Bang goes the metal riff, once you start listening, so fast that Carina’s voice somewhat struggles to follow for the first instances. Holy. Metal. Cow.

Everything is rockier, more straightforward – indeed a much more self-confident approach to the music than before. But also darker – a shift towards the Gothic Metal genre, one might say. They have really managed to get to a next level, still maintaining their unique style, but now there is spice and fire in the tune.Got hooked? Arven – Music of Light (2011) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Arven - Music of Light - Album CoverYou know, I came across this band kind of by accident. And – at first – I thought them to be without much merit. In the beginning only, I’d like to stress. Not for this cold metal heart. Right?

But how far from the truth!  Listening to some of the songs I got hooked, very quickly convinced otherwise. Arventhe most amazing German almost girl band: A bunch of girls, plus Till, the lucky drummer.

Music of Light features a beautiful variation of rock, kind of gothic rock metal, and then again symphonic with metal injections (am I making sense?). And all of a sudden the tune takes off with some very good solo, very professionally played and cool to hear.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
