You have got to give it to them. Whatever Christopher Bowes and his gang of merry troubadours touch is fun to listen to. Sometimes too intense for their own good or slightly overdone in reckless cheesiness, but never too serious.

And always delivered with an eyewink of sorts. Their personas reach from the Davy Jones-infested waters of Alestorm to galaxy-hopping goblins in Gloryhammer.

They did it. They finally did it. Xandria managed to keep one of their female fronts a bit longer than for a felt stretch of one album only. So, here they again feature the classically trained Dutch singer Dianne Van Giersbergen on their second album in a row. And rightly so. Talented girl that she is, she can easily match a range from Tarja Turunen, over Floor Jansen, and back to Simone Simons. And that means something.

To look at Sirenia these days is like reliving the events around Leaves’ Eyes all over again. If you remember, out rocketed Liv Kristine earlier this year, and in came the Goth Chick from the East. And it was lightning fast, with – apparently – no prior notice to the victim in this play of villains.
