As you may know, RockmusicRaider also reviews older records, often from the ’70s and ’80s of the last century. For the simple reason that we still have a lot of great material, sometimes real pioneer work, which should never be forgotten.

The RMR crew already published the Old’n’Tasty volumes I & II earlier. And now is the time for a new installment, with a number of records that took our fancy. As always, this is in no way a ranking, but simply a selection of great albums that crossed our path.

It was the album art that drew me to this particular Scorpions album at first. Yeah, the sticky finger one. Of the guy who wanted to go a-touching, and paid the ultimate price. In a truly adolescent setting to boot.

These were the times of all kinds of surreal shit on album covers. And much more provocative ones than this one, too, yet sometimes of a deliriously tasty kind. I know. For a long time, the review horizon stayed devoid of any new Dio records. To avoid overcooking the goose and scare our fans off, I guess. But – by Loki – the temptations are sometimes just too juicy. Specifically when The Last in Line released on 2 July some 34 years ago. So, here’s to a few moments for this fanboy to gush about Dio and his travels about the early metal landscape.

You need to give it to them old folks. The ’70’s and ’80s were very productive as far as music is concerned. Barely emerged from early-age rock’n’roll, blues and – not to forget – jazz, rock and later metal were on their quest to claim their place in the musical landscape. This was a time of experimentation, constructing tunes for the future. Not making music for the masses, through old designs like so much patchwork. Which is – come to think of it – what we see a lot of today.
