This strangely subdued combination of Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, and a strong dose of Stream of Passion really has this proverbial knack to catch your attention. Just at the moment when the RMR office police were about to activate the terrible delete button. Then some industrial-grade ambient sounds and juicy hooks got added to the fray. And the RMR robocops took their leaves.

Music videos are legion. You find all sorts, usually with bands showing off in egocentric theatrics. Jumping about in wild metal bliss, as if the punk movement got some sort of satanic revival.

Only some bring real sustenance to a metal heart with its sometimes unholy hunger. Those deliver stellar film work, supported by their trademark tune. And others just bring you an intriguing sound that will stick to you like this elemental living in your attic. The one that will haunt you every night.

Do you remember Darkend or Dark Portrait with their somewhat insane incantations? For both, you could just feel the Dark Lord rising to prominence or sense the arrival of the child-eating Lamia. Juicily daemonic and almost disturbing, right? So, we thought it could get no better. Or more menacing for that matter. Well, wrong – so wrong.

From the ashes of the Swedish band Waning rises Ov Shadows. And it is a cold, icy storm that their debut EP Monologues unleashes onto these unsuspecting earthlings surrounding them.

Newsflash: 10 Hateful things for Tornado Kid!

It is variety that got my attention first and their tongue-in-cheek genre description of Booze ‘n’ Blues on their Facebook page. Then the corniness kicked in – profanity and blasphemy galore included.

But that’s alright.

And next came the interesting title Hateful 10. Going by the lore Tornado Kid tell us, they were so fed up with painfully re-doing their 10 tracks of musical prowess for their first full length, they started to hate it.
