If you are looking to pick up some Uriah Heep records, there is no way around their 1972 piece Demons and Wizards. This one is probably one of the best, if not THE best album they made at that time. Or ever since for that matter, alongside The Magician’s Birthday, released surprisingly that same year.

…Very ‘Eavy …Very ‘Umble just takes off like a rocket with Gypsy straight into Uriah Heep‘s debut album back in 1970. And what a debut! Starting a first-ever album with a hit straight away is a feat not easily repeated. Stellar!

Of course with David Byron‘s pipes, Ken Hensley handling the keyboard madness and other things. Okay, he did some of the vocals too. Plus you got Mick Box doing the usual stellar things with his guitar. So, all should be good. Right? Well, not quite.

Because shortly after Gypsy ends, you kind of go ‘Now What’?

For those who think that The Plague Within of Paradise Lost has been the absolute best of our Year of the Lord 2015, think again. My Dying Bride just cut you loose, adrift in an ocean of pain, just Feel the Misery!

I know one should not give the boat away and show yer mighty colors too soon, but this mixture between Paradise Lost, Sorcerer, and My Silent Wake is just irresistible. Obsession is the last album of what is commonly called the Schenker years in the UFO discography. Michael Schenker enjoyed a relatively short, but intense career for his first stint with UFO, starting with Phenomenon in 1974 and ending it – from a standpoint of studio album releases – with Obsession in 1978.

He for sure put his stamp on UFO and all that stuff they were able to produce in this relatively short time frame. Schenker actually returned to the fold in 1993 for a short time – many years later.
