Prokopton. The path of the stoic. I kinda like that in context with Aephanemer. Already their 2016 piece Memento Mori showed the advanced skills of this band and – for sure – of lead guitarist Martin Hamiche. The latter record indeed was already a pretty good album in itself, but it did have its moments. And certainly, a lot of air still to fill.

It looks like this blog needs a bit more growling to move it back to our metal roots. Lately, we were hunting about the folksy parts of the music industry a lot. And finally ended up in cheese-covered Power Metal lands, populated by fantasy cookie monsters and fairy dust. 

So, it is great news that Meadows End finally came forward with their new full-length album The Grand Antiquation.

I am stumped and pleased at the same time with Hunter’s Moon of the Dutch outfit Delain.

Why issue an EP, and then smother it in a truckload of endless live tracks and videos? Unless you want to make a weak offering palatable to the audience by stuffing it with a ton of recordings of times past.

Or you mix 16 minutes of originality with 48 minutes of miscellaneous recordings on a CD, plus untold minutes of video on another, to inflate earnings. Which – again – is a fine strategy. Because you gotta make a living, right?

This groovy grind was already visible when The Riven released their 2017 blurb Blackbird. This good ol’ whiskey-fueled rock, filled with stoner-esque pleasures to the brim. The good old times of sensual rock suddenly beckoning you all over again.

You do find them still, those bands with a style that kinda went out of fashion many years ago. But not so often anymore. Dirty Sound Magnet in their old incarnation was one. Or again Last Bullet or Hey Satan with their grouchy, stony beat.
