If there’s one band on the RMR beat that got extensive coverage, it is – for sure – the Swiss band Eluveitie. An outfit that appeared out of nowhere in 20021 and broke into real fame by the time the 2008 piece Slania hit our turntables. An enigmatic and sometimes downright excellent band that that didn’t always get good rates from this ‘zine during its 20-year career. But the band around Chrigel Glanzmann continues to fascinate those deckhands @ RMR, so future coverage is literally ensured. This is the review I almost didn’t write. Call it writer’s block, if you will. But it ain’t. It’s just that some records flow by effortlessly. Smooth metal that kinda roars something in the background whilst you do other chores. And it’s not that they’re bad or anything. They just – happen. And once you’re ready to pick up the pen, the record just finished.

It’s time to work on the leftovers from the Year of the Lord 2021. Those that were slated for review initially but for some reason never got enough attention. One of them is the – until recently – pretty much unknown band Sun of the Suns and their debut album TIIT.

And who ever said that we won’t be covering those joint Deathcore pieces anymore? The ones that gurgle themselves through a tasty Death Metal repertoire when they’re not busy ripping everyone a new butthole with their ‘core activities.

The RMR crew here wasn’t all that impressed with the doom soundscape over the last few years. Lighthouses like Pallbearer or – again – Khemmis lost their bite somewhat. To the point that their latest releases found themselves in that dreaded oubliette and not on the RMR review pipe where they should be.
