I came across Finsterforst via their latest 2014 record Mach Dich Frei and found them forest boys of good, crunchy quality. In style, clear delivery, and technical prowess. Yet the lyrics were wanting somewhat, too much hate mail there. But by and large, their tune turns out to be pretty mature.

Now, their magic potion Rastlos is different. Insomnium with a Black Forest Pie flavor mixed with a portion of Moonsorrow style of bleak, black winter lakes? Sometimes the similarities are quite startling and perhaps Finsterforst pushed this one a bit far in this here record. Evil tongues say that [...] Click to raid more!

This record reminds me of dreary landscapes. Places where one – in a desperate way – really wants to be depressed and look for some consolation. Across the Dark is the music you would listen to on the South Pole. Whilst your buggy races along the cold plains of unknown Kadath, looking for untold horrors.1

Passenger - Whispers - Album Cover

After all that harder Metal stuff I reviewed lately, it is time to get to something a little softer and more reflective.

What better choice would there be than Passenger with their 2014 release and 6th studio album Whispers. Or more, Mike Rosenberg with his latest and best made with some studio musicians.

Similar in style (or kind of, at least) to its predecessor All the Little Lights, this record offers a much-improved variation. And – I daresay – a thoughtfulness that was not there before. But of course and as usual, the melodies are of lesser importance, as the [...] Click to raid more!
