Nothing and nobody has been able to really copy that typical Insomnium style. Nor should anybody, right? This muted cathedral sound, spiked with discreet symphonic elements. All of this usually delivers on smoothly flowing, soaring guitars – three of them actually – and Niilo Sevänen‘s stately growls. Plus a few cleans, just for spice.

We were already quite impressed with Heart Like a Grave back in 2019, a somewhat more assertive piece than the former ones. And the question is, what comes next?

Well, their new video The Conjurer does. If anything, the band didn’t jettison any of their … [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider - Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy - Album Cover

It’s true. The RMR deck crew has a weakness for the sinister and the deep frightening darkness. The brutal and ritualistic metal soundscapes that Rock never touches. A sweet spot for the underground at large and for bands that show a ton of character.

In other words, the mainstream hunters, hustlers, copycats, and other chart-hungry, swampy creatures of the light1 almost run no chance to appear on this blog.

Only they were present all over this life-long timespan, unlike others that recently emerged again.

A true career of a rock band, filled with successes, failures (in the eyes of some), and its share of pretty sturdy drama. Just think about the bitter divorce from Geoff Tate[...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider - Lacuna Coil - Black Anima - Album Cover

Lacuna Coil like wordplays. Already their own band name is one, which translates to something like empty or blank coil. Now, their newest full-length album Black Anima (anima = soul in Italian) names stuff in the same vein. I kinda liked this idea already, together with this ominous album cover. All this goodness smacks of change. And change is what we need more of from this band.

Now, already their 2016 record Delirium seriously stole from our coveted stock of brownie points. This one had true promise and was written under duress so I understand, with a gazillion of band … [...] Click to raid more!
