Dark Sarah always kind of moved about the periphery of the RockmusicRaider rocky multiverse. Often just a short radar blip on occasion, the RMR deck crew nevertheless is pretty conscious of them. Now, we just stumbled across their newest video The Gods Speak.

And at first, it feels like your usual Symphonic Metal piece of work. But then take this: The track features Marko Hietala (Nightwish) and Zuberoa Aznárez (Tragul, Diabulus in Musica). ‘Tis a pretty cool constellation. I’ll be damned, time flies really fast. It is already ten years and five full length albums down the road for the Dutch Symphonic and Gothic Metal band Delain. Now crowned with their latest record Moonbathers. 

Already their very first album Lucidity impressed me greatly. To find a debut of an unknown band at such a level of professionalism was astounding. The whole record exuded a freshness and carefree attitude that – sadly – started lacking on future albums.

Nightwish – Once (2004) – Review

Yes, it is! The 2004 release Once of Finnish metallers Nightwish really is … typical Nightwish fare after all. But with a real hard-edge Heavy Metal twist that I have not seen displayed yet by this band; before and after this record.

Because the ones that came before – for instance Oceanborn and to a lesser extent Century Child – ended up being some sort of a uniform amalgam of stuff. Power Metal and Gothic Metal – yes to an extent – but nothing really knocking the socks off my feet. And the albums following this here release are of a different style in a sense.

Well, how to classify Delain‘s latest concoction The Human Contradiction? Still Delain, but a more sanitized, more mainstream version of their former, fresher self. And with former I mean before the album We are the Others that got itself a bit too much into the Pop Rock arena for its own good.
