RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Tragul 2018Same as the dreaded Henry MetalTragul ramped up their presence ever more during 2017. Only that this particular band took a much more interesting route. The newly formed outfit decided to forego the usual treadmill and to release every 1-2 months a new video, but no album. A kind of a drip feed to the hungry masses addicted to your soundbites, which – in itself – is an interesting concept.

In a few short months their style morphed from an electronically tainted and symphonically challenged Sirenia offshoot to Symphonic Metal with a pretty serious Power Metal bite. And there is more: Starting off in Paraguay of all places, Tragul basically is an international gig with a pretty impressive, multi-continental line-up.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Nightwish – Once (2004) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Nightwish - Once - Album CoverYes, it is! The 2004 release Once of Finnish metallers Nightwish really is … typical Nightwish fare after all. But with a real hard-edge Heavy Metal twist that I have not seen displayed yet by this band; before and after this record. ‘Cause the ones that came before – for instance Oceanborn and to a lesser extent Century Child – ended up being some sort of a uniform amalgam of stuff. Power Metal and Gothic Metal – yes to an extent – but nothing really knocking the socks off my feet. And the albums following this here release are of a different style in a sense.

Once already exudes a certain transformational look and feel.

The band secured the use of a full orchestra for the first time – the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Ghost Love Score already features some characteristics that could be found much later, notably to a large extent in Imaginaerum. Much to the dislike of the purist addicts of their former style of course, bemoaning the fate that got them cold.  [...]  Got hooked? Within Temptation – Hydra (2014) – Review

Well, who would have thought that!! From great beginnings, starting with Enter right up to The Heart of Everything, we have seen great work from Within Temptation. It started to decline with the following album, now ending with their 2014 record Hydra.

Not necessarily bad, but nothing that really rocked me out of my chair. Starting with a fair (not more) Let Us Burn, but then immediately featuring guest singers of no real value, really culminating in the ill-fated trial with Tarja Turunen, who's voice is really not put to value in her part in Paradise (What about us?).
