I’ll be damned, time flies really fast. It is already ten years and five full length albums down the road for the Dutch Symphonic and Gothic Metal band Delain. Now crowned with their latest record Moonbathers

Already their very first album Lucidity impressed me greatly. To find a debut of an unknown band at such a level of professionalism was astounding. The whole record exuded a freshness and carefree attitude that – sadly – started lacking on future albums.

And of course, the undeniable vocal powers – then and now – of Charlotte Wessels contributed greatly to the success of the band. April Rain – their second – followed in that [...] Click to raid more!

I did not quite know what to expect. Nemesea‘s last production The Quiet Resistance did – well – not exactly exert the metal-infused pull one would have expected. At least not on all fronts – some tracks were right there, some sort of very dark Pop Metal infected with Gothic elements.

Then judging by their about-face they made with In Control away from their Gothic Metal laden style displayed in Mana, it does not bode well for future records (and boy did I love Mana…). Now The Quiet Resistance held loads of dark promise. But what about their newest and 4th full length album Uprise? And after [...] Click to raid more!

How to best describe this?

Ah, yeah. The band calls it Heroic Fantasy Power Metal, no less. But it indeed feels like the beginning of the Kingdom of Cheese. This is what happens when a Scottish pirate and a Swiss cheese artist come together to form a band.

The debut of the mighty Gloryhammer called Tales from the Kingdom of Fife happens. That’s what!

Reminiscent of Hammerfall in many instances, the album for sure does not break any new ground. But whatever ground they break presents itself with an absolutely stellar enthusiasm and technical prowess that puts other debuting bands [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Phantasma - The Deviant Hearts - Album Cover

To ease my Death Metal injured ears somewhat, I started listening to some loftier and softer stuff. And stumbled across a band called Phantasma belting out a seemingly Nightwish-esque tune on an album called The Deviant Hearts.

The fact that Charlotte Wessels (Delain) is the female front on this project really piqued my interest right away. After all, she can truly sing and is one of the most respected professionals in the genre.

Interestingly, the project actually features three core band members. The remaining two: Georg Neuhauser (Serenity) and Oliver Philipps (Everon). And they harmonize really well, [...] Click to raid more!
