RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Moonbathers - Album CoverI’ll be damned, time flies really fast. It is already ten years and five full length albums down the road for the Dutch Symphonic and Gothic Metal band Delain. Now crowned with their latest record Moonbathers

Already their very first album Lucidity impressed me greatly. To find a debut of an unknown band at such a level of professionalism was astounding. The whole record exuded a freshness and carefree attitude that – sadly – started lacking on future albums.

And of course the undeniable vocal powers – then and now – of Charlotte Wessels contributed greatly to the [...] Click to raid more!

Phantasma – The Deviant Hearts (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Phantasma - The Deviant Hearts - Album CoverTo ease my Death Metal injured ears somewhat, I started listening to some loftier and softer stuff. And stumbled across a band called Phantasma belting out a seemingly Nightwish-esque tune on an album called The Deviant Hearts.

The fact that the ever cute Charlotte Wessels (Delain) is the female front on this project really piqued my interest right away. Not because she is cute of course. But because she can sing and is one of the most respected professionals in the genre.

RockmusicRaider Review - Draconian - Sovran - Album Cover Scandinavia seems to be an endless source of all things metal. This time we get it from Sweden, where I thought only the happy blonde bombshells dwell – but not so. The 6th studio album Sovran from Draconian is – at its base – real Doom Metal.

A powerful brand of Doom wanting to ice the bones in your body, and pound you crying into the dust with a deluge of sadness and tribulations. Interesting, how underrated this band is compared to the better known players in the genre. Especially in comparison with the Peaceville Three – myth or not. [...] Click to raid more!

Nemesea – Mana (2004) – Review

      RockmusicRaider - Spotify Logo

RockmusicRaider Review - Nemesea - Mana - Album Cover Nemesea claimed a few years ago that their first studio album Mana was written and produced in somewhat of a hellfire hurry back in 2004. Thus they aligned the style to the usual Gothic and Symphonic Metal outfits already at work at that time. And this is a really strange statement to make from any band.

Only to be confronted with a result that the band did not feel wholly comfortable with. This weird approach made them change their musical direction straight after this album.

A fact that became very evident in their later productions In Control and The Quiet [...] Click to raid more!
