Halestorm rulez, they said. The band will continue to deliver, they said. And truly, after former premium releases like The Strange Case of… or the more lackluster Into the Wild Life, expectations for anything coming from Lzzy Hale‘s corner were high. 

Sky high.

The awfully long waiting time for new material to come out added to the angst that Halestorm could be headed towards loony road. Not to forget the somewhat rosy direction Halestorm took in their last record. Kind of exposing Lzzy‘s soft side at every turn of the road. Nostalgia. The yearning for some long-vanished swathes of time. Events you once enjoyed, and somehow they still feel good today. And you (kind of) wish to travel back in time and be there again. The feeling is some sort of retroactive déjà-vu, a vague sentiment of useless comfort – most of the time. But in reality, all of that is lost in the corridors of time. And will never, ever come back.

Now, imagine you would marry the evil twin of Nightwish to Insomnium and give the female front of the former the boot first. You would in all probability beget a magic child called Meadows End.

Their style mixes the Scandinavian kind of Death Metal with not very subtle symphonic elements. And this gets us a sound that is pretty unique. Even if further influences like Omnium Gatherum, Amon Amarth and a tad of Wolfheart cannot be denied.

The Canadian East seems to be afloat with reckless rockers. Those in love with high-octane, scratchy rock’n’roll that will just get on your good side. There must be something in the water that generates crunch and genuine oomph. But whatever the reason may be, this is jolly good news for us rock adepts.

The RockmusicRaider deck crew already came across this devil-may-care attitude with bands like the excellent Last Bullet or again Vinyl Hero. But none do it with more abandon than the Halifax-based Hitman and their first installment of an EP The Offering.
