Who would have thought that the RMR crew will cover the German metal band Varg one day? The ones from Bavaria, by the way. So, this is neither about their namesake from Freiburg nor about one Louis Cachet1 and his misdeeds in infamy.

Often caught in a whirlpool of some strange meandering brand of Metalcore2, Varg‘s former offerings never quite managed to convince the RMR crew. Okay, I admit it. Finnish is not my forte, at all. I do speak a few languages, but the more you move North and – for sure – East, complexities increase somewhat exponentially. Until you end up with Chinese, which is a totally different animal.

So, the abundant supply of Finnish Extreme Metal offerings in native language must convince us by their sole power of musical projection. And that same rule goes with the enigmatic Vermilia and their newest blurb Keskeneräisiä Tarinoita. Unfinished stories that title translates to, I am told.

We covered Mach Dich Frei of Finsterforst already in 2015 for the first time in local lingo. With the new record looming and RMR with more than 510 posts under our belt, we decided to have another go at all that goodness. At these epic sounds reaching us from the – supposedly – darkest of all forests.

In the meantime, the RMR deck crew even insisted to cover Rastlos, which we quite enjoyed. So, something must be good with these folks, right?

I said it, didn’t I. After Evocation II released in 2017, I could already feel that this bright stage light for Fabienne Erni was not going to last for too long. So, here we find ourselves with Ategnatos, Eluveitie‘s newest in early 2019.

And it comes with a whopping 16 tracks crammed into one hour of air coverage. That is 3′ 45” of playtime for each track on average, exactly what the pop industry and the infamous labels demand for radio coverage. Well, kind of.
