Ah, the things you can do with a single bass guitar, a good drum kit, and smoky female vocals. Coma Hole here are one of the rare bands on RMR that will make do without the usual lead guitar. Instead, they slap dat bass as you’ve never seen before with sometimes amazing results. The last band that really made an impression like that on us were the dear departed ones of Riti Occulti.1 And that was back in – 2016.

Does Alestorm need some serious competition? They sure do. Bowes’ beer-crazed sailors overstayed their welcome somewhat lately, together with his other incarnations. But that’s only the first part of the equation. The second is yet another question. Do we truly need a Helloween soundalike to hit our shores? Perhaps we do. Some bands the RMR horde covers are way out there in the left field. And it’s not because they’re bad, it’s because they don’t give a damn about styles, conventions, and – seemingly – profits. They might lean a bit more this way or that, but by and large, they just do their thing.
