Intermittent Digest – Tome VII

RockmusicRaider - Intermittent Digest - Tome VIIWhoops! Is it mid 2018 yet? It is. And thus high time to take stock again of records that excited us at RockmusicRaider since Tome VI appeared on the screens of our esteemed fans. Meantime, the deck crew issued a new Top 10 for 2017 and hammered out yet another edition of the Old’n’Tasty series.

Now, these intermittent digests are surely no top 10 list. But some of those albums might very well end up in a hall of fame or two. And the harvest of records to date is certainly surprisingly eclectic. So – fans and friends – here we go with Tome VII:

RockmusicRaider Review - Infinitas - Civitas Interitus - Album CoverWhoever said that bands in Switzerland cannot whelp good metal records? And then coming from a remote corner of this decidedly tiny country to boot. Meet Infinitas and their record Civitas Interitus. The band boasts an unusual brand of Folk Thrash Metal that they savvily mix with acoustics, real folk and instrumentals. The pretty tasty and cool mix of styles and nuances really renders it difficult to get away from the record. Until you – suddenly – reach the end. The quality of the pudding is in the eating? Rightly so – for this blog at least. Infinitas managed to appear on the 2017 Top 10 AND get a video posted in 2018. There you go. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Doc Rotten - Sick & Suffering - Album CoverIt is insane, Doc Rotten continually remind me of old, pugnacious punk bands. A hint of The Pogues, raw and without the latter’s Irish veneer. A sip of grunge straight from Nirvana and the brutality of the Sex Pistols. And then this uncanny resemblance to old punk rock glories somehow got mixed up with some early Green Day in a sick kinda way. To top it, these guys did not resurrect themselves from the UK, but hail from Trenton, NJ in the good ‘ol US of A. Land o’ Trump and whatnot. So, this really is a good recipe for some punkishly rash pleasures going forward.

The RMR deck crew really started to take a liking to the brash, into-your-face style of these newly emerging punk rock bands. We just enjoyed some island punk from Infected Syren some weeks back. And now we came across this very short, tiny blurb of some 11 minutes only.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Infected Syren – Infected Syren (2018) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Infected Syrens - Self-Titled - Album CoverRockmusicRaider already covered a number of bands from Cyprus. Blynd or again Arrayan Path come to mind – to name just two. But never did we get a band like Infected Syren on the review list that seems to originate from the London East End much more than coming from an island in the Med.

And they are sinners. You don’t think they are? They are, for sure. Vile, rotten language. Spitting about the stage. Loud, brutal and fast guitar play with reckless abandon. Rebellious, ruthless screaming of vocals in a staccato voice seemingly reaching us from the past, straight from the ’70s. Devil-may-care innuendo at every dark turn of the record. Tracks slightly too long, away from the inherent two-minute madness many of their brethren like to indulge in – a blasphemy for the purists active within that genre. And – to the point made above – the band actually exchanges locations between Cyprus and London. Which adds to their credence in the genre and explains a lot.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
