Faun has been a frequent ‘guest’ of this zine over the years. The RMR crew got to know them once Von Den Elben took some more mainstream undercurrents by storm. The record was a revelation, unlike the forced Wardruna copycat feel that their previous pieces always induced. This drew a total shitstorm of ire from their hardcore fans and led the band to start pulling back from their newfound freedom after a while. Fast forward to Pagan of 2022, Faun‘s fare started to center yet again in the more esoteric form of Pagan Folk. It was interesting to see

The RMR review desk did not expect that. We got to know Tvinna through their two clips Kreiz and The Gore. Then – somehow – communications broke down and we missed record number one. And since that time, nada.

So, while wondering what gives with this band, By Norse suddenly latched onto our feed with Two – Wings of Ember, their sophomore record. And once we hit play, no ethereal Dark Folk with an earthy and primordial touch appeared. The RMR crew just covered Eluveities latest video that found highest praise from the review committee at our mighty office tower. But a short while earlier, Faun joined forces with the Swiss folk metallists for their video Gwydion. And this is – in and by itself – a stellar idea.

Faun are of course known for their pretty sumptuous video productions. You’ll always find a pretty snazzy storyline based on some mythical character or ancient legend. You guys ever heard about this newish outfit called Tvinna and their newest video The Gore? Well, neither did we. But it was a pretty cool fall surprise.

To find Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie) in full gothic metal make-up on an electronically challenged Pagan Folk piece is not something I did quite expect to see this year. But once we found Laura Fella (Faun) and Fiona Frewert (also Faun) on the list of that very same roster, the RMR deck crew had to give this new video a try.
