I am amazed. These guys managed to get the attention of Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Guilt MachineStream of Passion, The Gentle Storm), plus secured the services of a felt gazillion of additional guest performers from 12 countries.

As if this weren’t enough, they got Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios to do the mixing and mastering piece. Then the band forged ahead and landed us with 74 minutes of progressive goodness on 12 tracks.

Wow!

Unholy chanting in the dark, invocations of the daemon, bodily fluids freely streaming down the altar. Oh, lusty Black Mass, where art thou? Well, we got Black Metal outfits like Riti Occulti or – again – Darkend that cover this kind of topic. And it has been covered before and will be the subject of future records, I am sure.

Then, you got those pretenders with the pig heads on stakes, pigs’ blood, and chicks on crosses. Gorgoroth comes to mind with their 2004 performance in Krakow that almost got them in touch with the Polish jailhouse rock.

Same as the dreaded Henry MetalTragul ramped up their presence ever more during 2017. Only that this particular band took a much more interesting route.

The newly formed outfit decided to forego the usual treadmill chasing records. Instead, every 1-2 months a new video sees the light of day. A kind of a drip feed to the hungry masses addicted to your soundbites, which – in itself – is an interesting concept.

Many a metal wizard is already active in the Power Metal arena, with many more trying to get a foothold in a very crowded genre. And this breeds uniformity, which – by definition – shuns progression and evolution to anything new.

Methinks, that the ‘typical’ sound and style now ingrained themselves into the minds of fans and pros alike. So much so, that a certain expectancy arose with the fan community as to how Power Metal ought to sound.
