Looks like the Mediterranean is fertile ground when it comes to metal of all kinds. You got the island folks on Cyprus going strong, at least one very good one dwelling in Portugal.

But then there is a very important community down South in Italy too. Overtures being one of them and they are rocking away from Gorizia, right on the border with Slovenia. The band is now ready to open the doors on their newest and third full-length studio album Artifacts. To me, this is – not quite surprisingly – about the most mature album they produced so [...] Click to raid more!

Sirenia - The Seventh Life Path - Album Cover

You know, I like Gothic Metal and Symphonic Metal. I really do. It is usually more melodious and varied than the more straightforward types of metal that exist out there. And after a weekend of down ‘n’ dirty metal crunch, some Symphonic band-aid to soothe my bleeding ears is a welcome change.

But here I am listening to the Spanish/Norwegian Gothic Metal band of two+ Sirenia‘s latest studio album The Seventh Life Path. And already I am confused.

And I am getting something that somehow sounds like it, but it just does not quite feel right. Epica made the same mistake lately with their 2014 disc The Quantum Enigma – the overdone turkey one, with too much gravy. Too much over-compressed bombast, too many instruments to play … [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review Nemesea In Control - Album Cover

I hear Amaranthe calling, and that’s never a good thing around here! Most definitely. Well, so WRONG! Yonder band did not exist yet when the 2nd studio album In Control from Nemesea came to see the light of day. And they went straight over the edge of the flat and rocky Gothic Metal World, finding themselves in a DJane ready club world universe, where painted goblins reside.

What a change of direction going Pop Metal on me. Evil tongues would say electro-pop, but I am not evil, well only sometimes. Or should we say Synth Pop? Nope, the metal aspect [...] Click to raid more!
