You know, I am not sure what really stuck with me. And made me listen (much) longer than I usually do when doing selections for the review and news lists.

It must be this darkly threatening mix of Gothic Metal with Progressive Metal trends and elements thrown all over their tune.

With enough chaos and dissonance to keep you on your toes and awake. Add some crunchy metal ice-cubes into this Mojito in front of you and ready is your desolate cocktail for the evening.

Xandria – Ravenheart (2004) – Review

The first time I came across Xandria was via their second album Ravenheart. Not sure what really got my interest going, to be honest. It probably was the unique style that this band displayed at that time.

A German outfit, rocking in a somewhat delirious and somewhat poppy brand of Gothic and Melodic Metal. And – on top – these boys and girls provided a much-needed counterweight to other upcoming bands like Within Temptation back then.

Their style – or more their interesting mix of styles – is somewhat addictive and has this tendency to grow on you. For sure, they were not groundbreakers … [...] Click to raid more!

Hahaaa! Rock’n’Roll!! Hand and fingers in the air! The newest album Black is the Colour of the German band Arven takes off furiously fast. Nothing of the subdued style left anymore that somehow plagued their debut album Music of Light.

Bang goes the metal riff, once you start listening, so fast that Carina’s voice somewhat struggles to follow for the first instances. Holy. Metal. Cow.

Everything is rockier, more straightforward – indeed a much more self-confident approach to the music than before. But also darker – a shift towards the Gothic Metal genre, one might say. They have really … [...] Click to raid more!

You know, I came across this band kind of by accident. And – at first – I thought them to be without much merit. Not a tune for this cold metal heart. Right?

But how far from the truth! Music of Light has that knack to convince you otherwise, and quickly. An offering from Arven – the most amazing German almost girl band. A bunch of girls, plus Till, the lucky drummer.

Music of Light features a beautiful variation of rock, a kind of Gothic rock metal, and then again symphonic with metal injections. Am I making sense yet?
