RockmusicRaider Newsflash - The Eyes of Desolation - Awake in Dead - Album Cover

You know, I am not sure what really stuck with me. And made me listen (much) longer than I usually do when doing selections for the review and news lists.

It must be this darkly threatening mix of Gothic Metal with Progressive Metal trends and elements thrown all over their tune.

With enough chaos and dissonance to keep you on your toes and awake. Add some crunchy metal ice-cubes into this Mojito in front of you and ready is your desolate cocktail for the evening.

The Eyes of Desolation just unleashed their newest EP Awake in Dead onto the unsuspecting [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Wilderung - Sleep at the Edge of the World - Album Cover

Sleep at the Edge of the World of the Progressive Folk Metal band Wilderun is another one of these gems that – I am unhappy to say – somehow did not get on the RockmusicRaider review list in 2015.

And it is a disturbing piece of work.

You start listening and you cannot stop. This particular stretch of tune must be bewitched. Not that it is overly melodious. Well, no, it actually is. But then it isn’t – disturbingly isn’t.

RockmusicRaider Review - Amorphis - Circle - Album Cover

Actually many of them. But then also lots of elements that absolutely make no sense to me. And you just ask yourself: Quo Vadis, Amorphis?

Okay, it may very well be – as it was opined by some of my co-reviewers – that the band has been on the lookout for a different, more unique sound. This was somewhat confirmed in their follow-on album Under The Red Cloud [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review Tiamat Scarred People - Album Cover

You know what? The Swedish band Tiamat‘s 2012 album The Scarred People sounds like Moonspell on a sunny day. Minus the evil menace the latter exude throughout their productions.

I know, the Moonspell line was already present on the Wildhoney review, but what can I do? You could also argue that it is some weird mixture of Type O Negative and The Sisters of Mercy.

The stylish turncoat attitude is very prevalent with Tiamat. Yet, whatever you would like to say, this is one of their strong points. They clearly do not want to be put into silos and I like that.

But [...] Click to raid more!
