This groovy grind was already visible when The Riven released their 2017 blurb Blackbird. This good ol’ whiskey-fueled rock, filled with stoner-esque pleasures to the brim. The good old times of sensual rock suddenly beckoning you all over again.

You do find them still, those bands with a style that kinda went out of fashion many years ago. But not so often anymore. Dirty Sound Magnet in their old incarnation was one. Or again Last Bullet or Hey Satan with their grouchy, stony beat.

Do you know what I accused Train of? That they went for some rosy, politically correct bullshit. A sugar-sweet regurgitation of whatever American feel-good spin doctors advertise. 

Gone are the days of carefree bouncing about the stage, and having a rebellious and jolly good time. If it is because of advancing age or because of the thought police would be the subject of a completely different post.

You know, the RMR crew is always looking for the bands looming outside of the mainstream. Those that lurk in the murky depths of gloom by the side of the road. The bands looking for the unusual. Those who don’t give a damn where today’s undercurrents flow.

INK has been a consistent blip on our review radar in that department, for sure. Their Avantgarde-infused style prompted already a few listens of their 2016 album Loom. Halestorm rulez, they said. The band will continue to deliver, they said. And truly, after former premium releases like The Strange Case of… or the more lackluster Into the Wild Life, expectations for anything coming from Lzzy Hale‘s corner were high. 

Sky high.

The awfully long waiting time for new material to come out added to the angst that Halestorm could be headed towards loony road. Not to forget the somewhat rosy direction Halestorm took in their last record. Kind of exposing Lzzy‘s soft side at every turn of the road.
