RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Malacoda - Ritualis Aeterna - Album Cover

Malacoda flapped about the RMR office’s mutual conscience for a long while already, like one of them big fat vampire bats. The ones from places where the moon reigns supreme with its big, shiny fangs. Their EP Ritualis Aeterna initially released in December 2016 and now got on global distribution by this January 2018.

Named after a character in Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, Malacoda take the idea of Gothic Metal to the next level. The band paints this vivid, slightly decadent debauchery of soundscapes in bold baroque and Victorian strokes. Some sort of delicious, epic pandemonium, slightly reminiscent of Kamelot with [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Infected Syrens - Self-Titled - Album Cover

RMR already covered a number of bands from Cyprus. Blynd or again Arrayan Path come to mind – to name just two. But never did we get a band like Infected Syren on the review list that seems to originate from the London East End much more than coming from an island in the Med.

And they are sinners. You don’t think they are? They are, for sure. Vile, rotten language. Spitting about the stage. Loud, brutal, and fast guitar play with reckless abandon. Rebellious, ruthless screaming of vocals in a staccato voice seemingly reaching us from the past, straight [...] Click to raid more!

In 2017 the Canadian metal adepts Karkaos unleashed Children of the Void, their sophomore full-length record.

I really liked their somewhat peppery brand of metal, this mix between Arch Enemy-infused Melodic Death Metal and loads of elements of Power Metal that always kept yer juices flowing. The band already released a pretty powerful video for Kolossos, the 3rd track of the album.

Karkaos now doubled down with a new video called Tyrants. This is the grittiest of all tracks on this album, displaying a dark and sepulchral, yet speedy brand of powerful Melodic Death Metal. Some real [...] Click to raid more!

Ostura - The Room - Album Cover

I am amazed. These guys managed to get the attention of Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Guilt MachineStream of Passion, The Gentle Storm), plus secured the services of a felt gazillion of additional guest performers from 12 countries.

As if this weren’t enough, they got Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios to do the mixing and mastering piece. Then the band forged ahead and landed us with 74 minutes of progressive goodness on 12 tracks.

Wow!

And this raised a major concern right from the beginning. Do we have another case of extensive, badly managed complexity that raises [...] Click to raid more!
