Here is a band that improves with the past? Or should we say they decline as they move forward into the future?

Well, first I reviewed Stream of Passion‘s newest album A War of Our Own – newest meaning 2014 – and it didn’t impress me too much. So in desperation, I turned to some older stuff this band produced.

And … BINGO!

The band’s second studio album The Flame Within really delivers a much better brand of Progressive Metal. And it exceeds expectations on that scale. The band recovered nicely, after having been treated somewhat shabbily by Arjen Lucassen… [...] Click to raid more!

Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches (2015) – Review

I think they must have worn out the drummer. This guy looks like his own ghost on videos from the newest 2015 album of Cradle of Filth called the Hammer of the Witches.

CoF‘s 11th studio edition features the new guitarists Marek ‘Ashok’ Šmerda and Richard Shaw. You’ll also find Lindsay Schoolcraft on keyboards and female vocals for the first time with the cradle. So a lot of newbies in this band, and this is always somewhat of a worry when a new release is due. Either they wreck it, or it comes out really good.

Who ever said the Black Metal scene is filled with necrotic-psychopathic eruptions of total bullshit? Made by wackos that prefer the night. And only the night.

There are a few good bands out there, you know. Those with some fantasy, that come without the urge to bludgeon you to death with spiked fists and electric guitars, coupled with disgracefully bad music.

Cradle of Filth is one of the more promising bands out there. And their 2004 album Nymphetamine graces us with one of their better productions, especially compared to Damnation and a Day of 2003.

Epica – Design Your Universe (2009) – Review

Well, is it better than the other records or is it not? After Consign to Oblivion I grew a bit wary of what I was going to find in this Pandora’s box that this band usually delivers. Much to my relief, Epica‘s fourth studio album Design Your Universe is probably one of the better records – previous and past. It kind of sounds like a mix between Delain, Within Temptation and Nightwish fueled by top quality vitamins. They actually quite shamelessly erred on the latter’s territory.
