Ruins of Marianas Rest starts with a monologue that moves you out into space. One that Carach Angren could not have done better. And – truly – the tune and story also keeps you hostage to all sorts of horrors.

Only here, we have troubles of the mind that are at stake. Internalized terrors that somehow surface, when you least expect them. And not miscellaneous war crimes, or other horrifying dark urges.

Just savor the soaring guitars that always kind of feel out of place. Yet they must be there, or the tune sounds incomplete. Or visit the measured growls that compete with clear voice lyrics, as the theme and atmosphere demands. All of that renders this tasty amalgam of Extreme Metal into something really palatable.

RockmusicRaider Review - Meadows End - Soujourn - Album Cover Now, imagine you would marry the evil twin of Nightwish to Insomnium and giving the female front of the former the boot first. You would in all probability beget a magic child called Meadows End.

Their style mixes the Scandinavian kind of Death Metal with not very subtle symphonic elements. And this gets us a sound that is pretty unique. Even if further influences like Omnium Gatherum, Amon Amarth and a tad of Wolfheart cannot be denied.
