Sometimes it just takes simple rock to put a smile on your face. And one would think that we have seen it all when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll. But you still find them out there. The artists that manage to squeeze their trade a bit more, and get something original and tasty out to their fan base.

Built on a cheekily hinted foundation of good ol’ rock tunes from the ’70s and ’80s, Finnish artist Ossian Smith happily mixes Punk, alt-Country, Southern, Folk Rock, and more into a somewhat headstrong concoction.

Who remembers the priest in chains flung into the roaring sea by the daemon? I do for sure. These were the times when Heavy Metal got an uplift and Holy Diver emerged. A record that – incidentally – also appeared on our first installment of the Old’n’Tasty series. Delivered by a crystal clear voice and ended up as a classic after so many years. Dio really took off with that record and the track that went with it.

Same as the dreaded Henry MetalTragul ramped up their presence ever more during 2017. Only that this particular band took a much more interesting route.

The newly formed outfit decided to forego the usual treadmill chasing records. Instead, every 1-2 months a new video sees the light of day. A kind of a drip feed to the hungry masses addicted to your soundbites, which – in itself – is an interesting concept.

In a few short months, their style morphed from an electronically tainted and symphonically challenged Sirenia offshoot to Symphonic Metal with a pretty serious Power Metal [...] Click to raid more!

You surely remember one Tomas Börje Forsberg. This is at least how he called himself back in time. Forsberg was more famously known by the moniker Quorthon, and as the founder of the Black Metal turned Viking Metal band Bathory. This band released some truly mysterious and electrifying stuff back in their time. Until their leader’s demise in 2004 at the age of 39 years put a brutal stop to things, that is.
