The new year is still fresh, so what better moment than this one to reflect on some old metal for a change?

Old? The ’90s are old? Well, yeah, if you look at the rapid-fire development all things metal have taken since then. We sure show a totally different landscape today if compared to all these years ago.

And for sure again, if you look at the style changes Rotting Christ took over the years to the present day. Triarchy of the Lost Lovers really got us a fresh look at things and delivered powerfully well.

In essence, 1996 was a year of turning

RockmusicRaider Review - Mercy Isle - Undying Fire - Album Cover

The Gothic and Symphonic Metal universe out there did not necessarily thrill me in 2016 (or even before, for that matter). After the general salivating on these genres stopped, many of them bands have not quite gone where no man went before and developed their tune further.

Instead, most like to take the lighted safe road and just produce the same thing in a different robe all over again. We are speaking about SIG:AR:TYR and their newest metal contribution Northen. I never quite knew that Viking Metal adepts brandished their tune in good ol’ Canada. Until I came across the band’s last record Godsaga. It took them some very long six years to … [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider review - The Chronicles of Israfel - A Trillion Lights, Tome 2 - Album Cover

Methinks that 2016 was not exactly a great year for the alternative and progressive scouts out there. You know, the ones holding the torch while rushing forward into the unknown. And whilst some of them are still out there lurking in the RMR review pipeline, a few made it into the blog.

This so happened with The Chronicles of Israfel (correctly spelled, I assure you) and their newest full-length A Trillion Lights, Tome II.

The band is actually an (almost solo) project of Dominic ‘Israfel’ Cifarelly (ex Pulse Ultra, Billy Ray Cyrus, Scars on Broadway) with the help of his [...] Click to raid more!
