Monumental change took place within the confines of Eluveitie. Anna Murphy and her entourage (or faction, as evil tongues have it) left the band in 2016 seemingly in protest. And that meant long-time drummer Merlin Sutter and guitarist Ivo Henzi left with her to found Cellar Darling. Or – as the lore goes – Merlin got left first and the others chose to follow suit.

Well, whatever the sequence of events may have been, fact is that the growler-in-chief had the decidedly thorny task to recruit and train a new crew. This may also explain the unusually long wait [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Vanha - Within The Mist fo Sorrow - Album Cover

2016 was a pretty good year for all things doom, methinks. RockmusicRaider just released a review on the US band Khemmis and their kind of progressive and melodious doomy self. And – wham – here we go again.

The fearless RMR scout team just unearthed a tasty morsel of a similar ilk from very late in 2016. But mostly delivered in best, growly Doom Death Metal fashion – with clear vocals and croaks expertly mixed. RockmusicRaider Review - SIG:AR:TYR - Northen - Album Cover

See, it is indeed possible. You can write a complex metal tune without building brick walls so high that you won’t hear yourself anymore. And it can be done with a hike to the epic mountain top without firing up the mighty cheese machine, too.

Speaking of which: Here is a contender to metal fame that renders Amon Amarth and their Viking friends awfully cheesy.

We are speaking about SIG:AR:TYR and their newest metal contribution Northen. I never quite knew that Viking Metal adepts brandished their tune in good ol’ Canada. Until I came across the band’s last record Godsaga. It took them some very long six years to … [...] Click to raid more!
